LCD Soundsystem @ T5 (Small Ass Lens Edition)
Wednesday, May 26, 2010 at 9:48AM What better way to end off another fun filled, alcohol-steeped weekend than to dance our asses off at Sunday’s LCD Soundsystem show at everyone’s favorite place, Terminal 5? As many of you know, T5 is a venue of enormous proportions, where security routinely violates your person and where getting a drink means watching the rest of the show from the balcony. So while the BAL was out of the question on this night, the SAL (Small Ass Lens) was out in full covert force. So while we apologize in advance for the somewhat poorer quality of the capture from this show, we were luckily able to grab that ill high quality audio to sync the track to (as you’ve come to expect from us). The best song off This Is Happening and one of the greatest LCD tracks of all time, “All I Want”, below.
As far as the show went, we had a blast inside the T5 sweat box where water is a scarce resource and getting more might leave you far from the action up front. T5 is one of those places where the staff is so paranoid that they refuse to let you keep your water bottle caps, making it nearly impossible to store your own nourishment, short of smuggling in your own caps. And as we expected, the energy that James and the rest of his touring band brought to the show was truly devastating, as we spent the majority of his 2 hour set jumping around, sweating major balls, and nearly succumbing to heat exhaustion and dehydration. Hence why we only have a single video for you guys this time, pretty much the only song we actually stood somewhat still for. And as thrilling as this song was/is, the difference between it and the rest of the set couldn’t be more bigger. As one of the most energetic and loudest tracks of the night, “Yeah (Crass Version)” crescendo’ed into an ear piercing mélange of samplers, drum machines and James Murphy’s penetrating screams, our bodies hit a new level of exhilaration, one in which we became powerless to the hypnotizing trance unfolding before us. Props to James and his crew for bringing the heat on this night, sure to be one of his last in New York, having announcing his retirement from LCD some time ago. And while we’re sad to see him leaving, we’re glad he left us with an enduring and sure to be classic work to reflect on.
Stay tuned for big updates from BAL this week!
