Kurt Vile - Two Shows with Video

So it’s been a while, but we never actually left you. So what have we been up to?  Working of videos of course! Well, in addition to seeing shows, going out and getting totally fucked, and generally making enemies with all sorts of people. But as you’ll see from the following clips, we’ve really been working hard at perfecting our skills and streamlining our process for putting these out for you. Make no mistake – making videos of this quality is no easy task, and can be very time consuming. Hopefully the end result was well worth the wait.

First up this week are some videos of Kurt Vile I took hella long ago. In fact, the acoustic set below was filmed last summer, some time around our Animal Collective coverage. It was balls ass hot back then and is just getting to be that way again, which shows you just how long it’s really been. I’ve posted about Kurt before, and since then he has put out two EPs, the bedroom-infused God is Saying This To You… and his long awaited Matador debut Childish Prodigy. Today’s we’re posting two videos from his solo acoustic set at Cake Shop, “Don’t Get Cute” and “My Best Friends (Don’t Even Pass This)”, two of his bedroom tracks that might belong in a lucid dream.

Kurt Vile @ The Shank

Kurt Vile is an up and coming lo-fi singer/songwriter who up until last week I wasn't familiar with. His first "real" album, Constant Hitmaker, was made on a budget and sounds it. But what the album lacks in fidelity and production value it makes up with moments of pure clarity and beauty, “Freeway” and “Space Forklift” are two that immediately stand out. Matador, one of the largest and most respected indie labels, has decided based on this and a few other low budget, home-made tracks that Kurt has the potential to develop into something greater, and I am inclined to agree.  I anxiously await Kurt's first Matador-released album.
