The Black Angels - Live at the Orensanz - 9/7
Wednesday, September 8, 2010 at 1:56AM More trippy stuff coming your way after we saw The Black Angels play their new album, Phosphene Dream, at The Angel Orensanz Foundation in the LES. The venue could not have suited the Angels better. Back in the day, this spot served the followers at the Ansche Chesed Synagogue; last night it was a set piece for one of the most surreal shows we’ve covered this year. The huge, vaulted ceilings created some of the best sounds we’ve heard coming live, while the lights above soaked the antiquarian stone walls a creepy, dripping red. Watch The Black Angels set the mood with their signature dark sound, then build to a hazy, whirling crescendo in our video of “Bad Vibrations,” the lead off single to their upcoming album, above. Also added, album closer "The Sniper" (not to be confused with "The Sniper at The Gates of Heaven", from Passover) which unlike "Vibrations" is awash in a deep indigo blue, matching perfectly to the light and groovy mood of this song.
Phosphene Dream will be available as a digital + physical package on September 14, and is available for pre-order from their website.
