The Besnard Lakes - Videos from last night
Saturday, May 29, 2010 at 10:45AM Having hauled some major ass getting the Liars footage published, and in my rush to get drunk after work on friday night, I nearly forgot about this Besnard Lakes show I planned on hitting up at Bowery. Friday nights at The Bowery are brutal by the way, mainly because there are usually hella bands playing and the shit don't end till like 1-2 AM. Anyways, we stopped in towards the end of Land of Talk, and caught the first half or so of The Besnard Lakes, whose live set BrooklynVegan had this to say about:
Okay, back to Montreal. Friday night (5/28) The Besnard Lakes are playing Bowery Ballroom with Land of Talk. People overuse the word "epic" but the Besnard Lakes make music that deserves that description. And epic doesn't necessarily mean "overblown." Take, for example, "Like the Ocean, Like the Innocent" which opens their new album Are the Roaring Night. It's an amazing slow build that explodes (in slo-mo, yet not in a Michael Bay way) in the chorus with a giant wave of guitars. One of my favorite songs of the year, and it crushed at the Brooklyn Vegan day party during this year's SXSW. I've never seen a bad Besnard Lakes show. I highly, highly recommend you go.
Check out the full video of "Like the Ocean, Like the Innocent" (off their last album Are the Roaring Night) immediately followed by "Devastation", off their first album. Sound quality is great as always and you can really hear the foremost mentioned guitar build take shape. I'm also posting "Albatross," and possibly some others being added depending on many hours I pass out for the rest of today.
