Northside Festival Day 1 - Thao and Mirah, Takka Takka
Friday, June 25, 2010 at 9:55AM The L Magazine kicked off their 2nd annual Northside Festival yesterday, and Big Ass Lens was there to capture that ill fire as always. Like last year, alcohol sponsor S’mores Schnapps Heineken was hooking it up with the gratis brews, big ups to them for getting us nice and twisted beforehand, and to The L Magazine for being so accommodating to us, although they ought to have enlisted an official air conditioner sponsor as well, since Northside headquarters was seriously lacking on those BTUs. But in all fairness, yesterday was on some serious mugginess that only the 20,000 BTU portable joint could have rectified. Better call your boy Friedrich and tell him to get on that.
We had so much fun at last year’s Northside Fest that we jumped on the chance to cover it again for 2010. Top billing for this year’s lineup is none other than our boys Liars, who if you remember, we covered not just a few weeks ago. And if you thought Angus Andrews brought the storm in that show, wait until Saturday’s outdoor show at Barge Park in Greenpoint – whatever the forecast, plan for rain at the front of the stage.
Having copped the necessary brews, as well as requisite grub from our boys at the Döner spot on Bedford, we proceeded to check out Thao and Mirah With The Most of All playing at Willy Music Hall. Always a great place to see music, we cap’d a bunch of vids before heading out to Cameo Gallery to check out Takka Takka who were in the midst of a pretty impressive set. We wish we could have stayed out a little later for La Strada, but the grown ass men inside us couldn’t ignore the fact that is was quick approaching 1 AM, bed time for those of us who get up early. We decided to head out and rest up so that we might continue to bring you coverage today and the rest of the weekend. In lieu of full coverage of The Ernest Jenning Record Company showcase at Cameo, check out Ryan and Rob’s nifty mini-documentary on this label, embedded below for your viewing pleasure.
We got a full weekend of shows lined up for ya’ll, so keep checking back as we’ll be updating our posts with videos and the occasional snap as they are processed. Don’t forget to follow us on twitter for all the latest news on who we’re seeing, what we’ve posted, and how hammered we’re getting on Saturday’s game against Ghana.
