The Dead Weather @ Terminal 5 - Photos

By BAL

Made a last minute decision to see The Dead Weather at Terminal 5, AKA worst venue in New York. Not only it is too big and crowded, but security is a bitch and loves to rifle through your pockets like you are a common criminal. Making the following photos all the more impressive, considering the cuttyness it took to get them.

Not sure how I feel about the whole supergroup concept. I mean there is no guarantee that simply because a band contains members of other well-known groups that they will magically mesh together and create a defining musical style. Zwan, for example, sounded to me like more of a Billy Corgan solo project as opposed to a true collaborative effort. As expected, artistic differences, infighting and overall antipathy emerged after the initial release and resulted in a rather hostile breakup, the feelings from which remain to this day.

In the case of The Dead Weather, my ears hear Jack White (The White Stripes) and Alison Mosshart (The Kills) the strongest with Dean Fertita (Queens of the Stone Age) and Jack Lawrence (The Raconteurs) to a lesser degree. From what I have gleamed from Wikipedia, the four got together for a pick-up session and ended up forming a band. I am not sure what their plans are for the future, if this is meant to be a serious and long-term project or not, but it wouldn’t break my heart if they released nothing else. The way I see it, I’ve heard all these musical styles in some manner in their respective bands, and although the result is quite catchy it is nothing monumental or mind-blowing. Nevertheless, The Dead Weather will remain on my playlist for some time to come.

Enjoy the following photos taken at the show. Video taken during this show may be released depending on if the audio is salvageable.
